  It fits in your white coat! Yes, while there were entrepeneurs who started creating the iCoat, the truth is who wants to wear a coat with a huge pocket on the side? This means that you also don’t need to wear the “strap’ that we require our residents to wear for the iPad since we did not yet invest in the iCoat.

·  You can hold it in one hand! This for me is the best part and very underappreciated point in the blogs and reviews I have read. This means you can tough the screen with one hand while you are palming it with the other. I don’t even have the largest hands so I would say it definitely was just at the reach of my palm grasp but I can imagine it would be perfect for my male colleagues.

·  It fits in your purse! While the female docs may find palming the iPad mini not as easy as the men, never fear…since this one is for the ladies. Many female doctors are always on a quest to find the right handbag/workbag combination. Owning an iPad always meant buying boxy “folio” type purses or shoving it to barely fit in a handbag. The mini is the PERFECT size for a medium size handbag – hobo or satchel. This means that you can go from day to night without carrying your “work bag” to the restaurant. And for the men out there, you can always get a “murse” this holiday season. I hear that they are making a big splash.

·  You’ll carry it more. Number 1 through 3 really boil down to the fact that it is hard to carry the iPad. Because it is so easy to carry, you won’t find yourself without access to the electronic health record or paging directory. You may be more apt to show patients their images or X-rays or look something up because it is not as hard to use.

·  You’ll make friends. Basically the minute I brought out the Mini, everyone…nurses, social workers, residents, students, and yes patients were interested in seeing it – “Mini envy” as my students called it. It’s a conversation starter that can improve collegiality and teamwork. When I visited floors that I did not usually work on (overflow patients), I met a nurse who asked me about the Mini – and the next day, she came to our rescue when we were trying to decipher the timing of a patient’s medication and a potential new allergy.

·  It is more discrete to use at a conference (once everyone stops staring). The Mini is smaller so a bit more stealth in terms of answering a text page or checking a lab while you are sitting in case conference, and you can easily stash it back in your purse as noted above.

Taking ADHD Drugs as a Child Linked to Later Obesity.


New research out of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health shows that the body mass index of children diagnosed with ADHD and put on medication to treat it can increase months or even years after they’ve stopped taking their treatment

As recent data continues to show higher rates ofattention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among children, parents, doctors and researchers have been eager to better understand what the rising numbers will mean for a generation of kids. With the latest figures suggesting that as many as 11% of youngsters ages 4 to 17 are living with a diagnosis of ADHD in the U.S., some studies have linked the disorder to higher rates of substance abuse and smoking, and nowobesity.

The latter is particularly puzzling to scientists for two reasons: First, hyperactivity doesn’t seem like it should lead to gaining weight. Second, the most common medications for treating ADHD are stimulants, which help to balance out excitatory chemicals in the brain and even out nerve firings so they’re less chaotic. Stimulants include amphetamines, which have been used for decades as a metabolism booster to help the body burn calories faster.

But we may have to rethink the way we think of stimulants, and how we’re medicating our kids. Dr. Brian Schwartz, professor of environmental-health sciences, epidemiology and medicine at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and his colleagues compared how body mass index (BMI) — a measure of height and weight — changed depending on whether kids were diagnosed with ADHD, and whether they were treated with the most commonly prescribed stimulant medications.

The researchers studied the same group of 163,000 children ages 3 to 18 over a period of up to 13 years, tracking their diagnoses, drug treatments and weight. For the children diagnosed with ADHD and put on medications, their BMIs remained slightly below that of their peers who either were not affected by ADHD or had the disorder but were not treated, or treated with nonpharmaceutical therapies. That wasn’t a surprise, since years of studies have shown that stimulants, or amphetamines, can inhibit growth.

What stunned the scientists was what happened after the kids came off the drugs. About half of the children in the study remained on the medications for about six months or less, while the other half took the pills for about a year. On average, by age 13, those who had taken the medications started to put on weight, while those who hadn’t did not. “That BMI growth curve was curving dramatically upward,” says Schwartz, who reported his findings in the journal Pediatrics. “This is the first time to my knowledge that the idea of a BMI rebound after discontinuation of stimulants has been reported.” The BMI of ADHD children who used other types of treatments actually converged with those of children who were not diagnosed with ADHD.

That means that long after children have stopped taking medications such as RitalinAdderall and Concerta, their bodies may still be feeling the effects of the drugs. Moreover, the younger the children were when they were prescribed the medications, the more they gained weight as teens. The same held true for those who took the drugs for longer periods of time. “Whatever the stuff does to you for that relatively short period of time — months to a year — it seems to alter your BMI trajectory for a long period of time after,” he says.

It’s not clear how that may be occurring — but children’s brains are still developing, and it’s possible that the changes in brain chemicals caused by the ADHD medications could reset and prime young bodies for obesity by disrupting normal appetite signals and the calorie-burning processes.

If that’s the case — and more studies will be needed to confirm that theory — the results are particularly concerning, since the latest surveys also show that many pediatricians are turning to medications more quickly than they should to treat their youngest patients. While the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends behavior therapy as the first line of treatment offered to preschoolers diagnosed with the disorder, a study released earlier this year showed that 1 in 5 specialists prescribed medications for preschoolers, either alone or in combination with behavior therapy, at the time of diagnosis.

“We certainly need to be more cautious about use of these medications in children,” says Schwartz. “Obesity has lifelong risks. If this is a consequence of stimulant use, and since there is evidence that we might be overprescribing stimulants, we might be contributing to the childhood- and adult-obesity epidemics.”

‘Vigorous exercise’ cuts flu risk


Doing at least two and a half hours of vigorous exercise each week cuts the chance of developing flu, new data suggests.

Around 4,800 people took part in this year’s online Flu Survey, run by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Moderate exercise did not appear to have a protective effect, the researchers said.

Overall, flu rates have been relatively low this winter.

The Flu Survey, now in its fifth year, tries to track as much detail as possible about who does and does not get flu.

One of the questions people must answer when they register, as well as their age, if they are around children and if they have been vaccinated, is how many hours of “vigorous exercise” they do each week, such as running, fast cycling or competitive sports, ranging from none to more than five hours.

They are then asked to log in each week and note how they are feeling, and whether or not they have any flu-like symptoms.

‘Dodged the flu bullet’

The researchers say their findings suggest 100 cases of flu per 1,000 people could be prevented just by engaging in vigorous exercise.

They also said this year’s survey found some of the lowest reports of flu-like illness in recent years.

Over the winter flu season, only 4.7% of reports were positive for flu-like symptoms compared with 6% last year.

Children also appear to have had lower levels of flu-like illness than last year with just 5% reporting symptoms this flu season compared with 7.9% last year.

Dr Alma Adler, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said: “We need to treat this result cautiously as these are preliminary findings. However, they are consistent with findings for other conditions and really show the health benefits of exercise.

“Although many people have dodged the flu bullet this winter, flu can occur at any time, so taking advantage of the better weather is a great opportunity to get out and get fit to ward off flu this spring.”

Flu Survey provides data to the government, and feeds into Public Health England’s national flu surveillance programmes.

Forests Around Chernobyl Aren’t Decaying Properly.


Nearly 30 years have passed since the Chernobyl plant exploded and caused an unprecedented nuclear disaster. The effects of that catastrophe, however, are still felt today. Although no people live in the extensive exclusion zones around the epicenter, animals and plants still show signs of radiation poisoning.

Birds around Chernobyl have significantly smaller brains that those living in non-radiation poisoned areas; trees there grow slower; and fewer spiders and insects—including bees, butterflies and grasshoppers—live there. Additionally, game animals such as wild boar caught outside of the exclusion zone—including some bagged as far away as Germany—continue to show abnormal and dangerous levels of radiation.

However, there are even more fundamental issues going on in the environment. According to a new study published in Oecologia, decomposers—organisms such as microbes, fungi and some types of insects that drive the process of decay—have also suffered from the contamination. These creatures are responsible for an essential component of any ecosystem: recycling organic matter back into the soil. Issues with such a basic-level process, the authors of the study think, could have compounding effects for the entire ecosystem.

The team decided to investigate this question in part because of a peculiar field observation. “We have conducted research in Chernobyl since 1991 and have noticed a significant accumulation of litter over time,” the write. Moreover, trees in the infamous Red Forest—an area where all of the pine trees turned a reddish color and then died shortly after the accident—did not seem to be decaying, even 15 to 20 years after the meltdown.

“Apart from a few ants, the dead tree trunks were largely unscathed when we first encountered them,” says Timothy Mousseau, a biologist at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and lead author of the study. “It was striking, given that in the forests where I live, a fallen tree is mostly sawdust after a decade of lying on the ground.”

Wondering whether that seeming increase in dead leaves on the forest floor and those petrified-looking pine trees were indicative of something larger, Mousseau and his colleagues decided to run some field tests. When they measured leaf litter in different parts of the exclusion zones, they found that the litter layer itself was two to three times thicker in the “hottest” areas of Chernobyl, where radiation poisoning was most intense. But this wasn’t enough to prove that radiation was responsible for this difference.

To confirm their hunch, they created around 600 small mesh bags and stuffed them each with leaves, collected at an uncontaminated site, from one of four different tree species: oak, maple, birch or pine. They took care to ensure that no insects were in the bags at first, and then lined half of them with women’s pantyhose to keep insects from getting in from the outside, unlike the wider mesh-only versions.

Like a decomposer Easter egg hunt, they then scattered the bags in numerous locations throughout the exclusion zone, all of which experienced varying degrees of radiation contamination (including no contamination at all). They left the bags and waited for nearly a year—normally, an ample amount of time for microbes, fungi and insects to make short work of dead organic material, and the pantyhose-lined bags could help them assess whether insects or microbes were mainly responsible for breaking down the leaves.

The results were telling. In the areas with no radiation, 70 to 90 percent of the leaves were gone after a year. But in places where more radiation was present, the leaves retained around 60 percent of their original weight. By comparing the mesh with the panty hose-lined bags, they found that insects play a significant role in getting rid of the leaves, but that the microbes and fungi played a much more important role. Because they had so many bags placed in so many different locations, they were able to statistically control for outside factors such as humidity, temperature and forest and soil type to make sure that there wasn’t anything besides radiation levels impacting the leaves’ decomposition.

“The gist of our results was that the radiation inhibited microbial decomposition of the leaf litter on the top layer of the soil,” Mousseau says. This means that nutrients aren’t being efficiently returned to the soil, he adds, which could be one of the causes behind the slower rates of tree growth surrounding Chernobyl.

Other studies have found that the Chernobyl area is at risk of fire, and 27 years’ worth of leaf litter, Mousseau and his colleagues think, would likely make a good fuel source for such a forest fire. This poses a more worrying problem than just environmental destruction: Fires can potentially redistribute radioactive contaminants to places outside of the exclusion zone, Mousseau says. “There is growing concern that there could be a catastrophic fire in the coming years,” he says.

Unfortunately, there’s no obvious solution for the problem at hand, besides the need to keep a stringent eye on the exclusion zone to try to quickly snuff out potential fires that breaks out. The researchers are also collaborating with teams in Japan, to determine whether or not Fukushima is suffering from a similar microbial dead zone.

Have physicists finally detected gravitational waves?


Gravitational waves are the last chunk of Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity that was predicted but not yet observed. If gravitational waves have been observed, it most likely was done by the Background Imaging of Cosmic Extragalactic Polarization (Bicep) telescope at the south pole. It stared at the cosmic microwave background radiation from 2003 to 2008, but it takes a long time to process and analyze the data when looking for a faint signal in a lot of noise.

The Bicep mission page describes anticipated gravitational waves as faint, polarized, and distorted by gravitational lensing of objects between us and the cosmic microwave background radiation. They released a video of their observations in 2008. The colour scale adjusts throughout the movie to highlight temperature fluctuations of both the cosmic microwave background radiation, and the galactic plane:

Why look at the cosmic microwave background radiation for signs of gravitational waves? Because an infinitesimal moment after the universe started — 10-34 seconds after the big bang — we think it went through an inflationary period. If it did, that inflation could have amplified gravitational waves to such an extent that we can actually detect them. This would not only fill in that last missing chunk of things predicted by General Relativity that we haven’t seen yet, but also offer a glimpse into the primeval universe. They won’t be insta-proof that inflationary theory is correct, but they would rule out some cyclic theories for the origin of the universe.

Some pre-announcement articles are already mixing up very common gravity waves with gravitational waves. To differentiate, I’ll pass things off to an exasperated Dr. Katherine Mack:

People use “gravity waves” to mean “gravitational waves” constantly, so probably any clarification is a lost cause, but had to say it.

As for the press conference, I’m already bracing for disappointment. “Breaking news! We’ll have breaking news for you on Monday!” announcements produce so much hype that the actual discovery probably won’t live up to expectations. I’m not the only one feeling that way — the Guardian ran an entire piece interviewing cautiously excited cosmologists warning that the observations would need to be highly robust if they’re going to be momentous.

Scientists Claim That Quantum Theory Proves Consciousness Moves To Another Universe At Death.


A book titled “Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness Are the Keys to Understanding the Nature of the Universe“ has stirred up the Internet, because it contained a notion that life does not end when the body dies, and it can last forever. The author of this publication, scientist Dr. Robert Lanza who was voted the 3rd most important scientist alive by the NY Times, has no doubts that this is possible.

Beyond time and space

Lanza is an expert in regenerative medicine and scientific director of Advanced Cell Technology Company. Before he has been known for his extensive research which dealt with stem cells, he was also famous for several successful experiments on cloning endangered animal species.

But not so long ago, the scientist became involved with physics, quantum mechanics and astrophysics. This explosive mixture has given birth to the new theory of biocentrism, which the professor has been preaching ever since.  Biocentrism teaches that life and consciousness are fundamental to the universe.  It is consciousness that creates the material universe, not the other way around.

Lanza points to the structure of the universe itself, and that the laws, forces, and constants of the universe appear to be fine-tuned for life, implying intelligence existed prior to matter.  He also claims that space and time are not objects or things, but rather tools of our animal understanding.  Lanza says that we carry space and time around with us “like turtles with shells.” meaning that when the shell comes off (space and time), we still exist.

The theory implies that death of consciousness simply does not exist.   It only exists as a thought because people identify themselves with their body. They believe that the body is going to perish, sooner or later, thinking their consciousness will disappear too.  If the body generates consciousness, then consciousness dies when the body dies.  But if the body receives consciousness in the same way that a cable box receives satellite signals, then of course consciousness does not end at the death of the physical vehicle. In fact, consciousness exists outside of constraints of time and space. It is able to be anywhere: in the human body and outside of it. In other words, it is non-local in the same sense that quantum objects are non-local.

Lanza also believes that multiple universes can exist simultaneously.  In one universe, the body can be dead. And in another it continues to exist, absorbing consciousness which migrated into this universe.  This means that a dead person while traveling through the same tunnel ends up not in hell or in heaven, but in a similar world he or she once inhabited, but this time alive. And so on, infinitely.  It’s almost like a cosmic Russian doll afterlife effect.

Multiple worlds

This hope-instilling, but extremely controversial theory by Lanza has many unwitting supporters, not just mere mortals who want to live forever, but also some well-known scientists. These are the physicists and astrophysicists who tend to agree with existence of parallel worlds and who suggest the possibility of multiple universes. Multiverse (multi-universe) is a so-called scientific concept, which they defend. They believe that no physical laws exist which would prohibit the existence of parallel worlds.

The first one was a science fiction writer H.G. Wells who proclaimed in 1895 in his story “The Door in the Wall”.  And after 62 years, this idea was developed by Dr. Hugh Everett in his graduate thesis at the Princeton University. It basically posits that at any given moment the universe divides into countless similar instances. And the next moment, these “newborn” universes split in a similar fashion. In some of these worlds you may be present: reading this article in one universe, or watching TV in another.

The triggering factor for these multiplyingworlds is our actions, explained Everett. If we make some choices, instantly one universe splits into two with different versions of outcomes.

In the 1980s, Andrei Linde, scientist from the Lebedev’s Institute of physics, developed the theory of multiple universes. He is now a professor at Stanford University.  Linde explained: Space consists of many inflating spheres, which give rise to similar spheres, and those, in turn, produce spheres in even greater numbers, and so on to infinity. In the universe, they are spaced apart. They are not aware of each other’s existence. But they represent parts of the same physical universe.

The fact that our universe is not alone is supported by data received from the Planck space telescope. Using the data, scientists have created the most accurate map of the microwave background, the so-called cosmic relic background radiation, which has remained since the inception of our universe. They also found that the universe has a lot of dark recesses represented by some holes and extensive gaps.

Theoretical physicist Laura Mersini-Houghton from the North Carolina University with her colleagues argue: the anomalies of the microwave background exist due to the fact that our universe is influenced by other universes existing nearby. And holes and gaps are a direct result of attacks on us by neighboring universes.

Soul

So, there is abundance of places or other universes where our soul could migrate after death, according to the theory of neo-biocentrism. But does the soul exist?  Is there any scientific theory of consciousness that could accommodate such a claim?  According to Dr. Stuart Hameroff, a near-death experience happens when the quantum information that inhabits the nervous system leaves the body and dissipates into the universe.  Contrary to materialistic accounts of consciousness, Dr. Hameroff offers an alternative explanation of consciousness that can perhaps appeal to both the rational scientific mind and personal intuitions.

Consciousness resides, according to Stuart and British physicist Sir Roger Penrose, in the microtubules of the brain cells, which are the primary sites of quantum processing.  Upon death, this information is released from your body, meaning that your consciousness goes with it. They have argued that our experience of consciousness is the result of quantum gravity effects in these microtubules, a theory which they dubbed orchestrated objective reduction (Orch-OR).

Consciousness, or at least proto-consciousness is theorized by them to be a fundamental property of the universe, present even at the first moment of the universe during the Big Bang. “In one such scheme proto-conscious experience is a basic property of physical reality accessible to a quantum process associated with brain activity.”

Our souls are in fact constructed from the very fabric of the universe – and may have existed since the beginning of time.  Our brains are just receivers and amplifiers for the proto-consciousness that is intrinsic to the fabric of space-time. So is there really a part of your consciousness that is non-material and will live on after the death of your physical body?

Dr Hameroff told the Science Channel’s Through the Wormhole documentary: “Let’s say the heart stops beating, the blood stops flowing, the microtubules lose their quantum state. The quantum information within the microtubules is not destroyed, it can’t be destroyed, it just distributes and dissipates to the universe at large”.  Robert Lanza would add here that not only does it exist in the universe, it exists perhaps in another universe.

If the patient is resuscitated, revived, this quantum information can go back into the microtubules and the patient says “I had a near death experience”‘

He adds: “If they’re not revived, and the patient dies, it’s possible that this quantum information can exist outside the body, perhaps indefinitely, as a soul.”

This account of quantum consciousness explains things like near-death experiences, astral projection, out of body experiences, and even reincarnation without needing to appeal to religious ideology.  The energy of your consciousness potentially gets recycled back into a different body at some point, and in the mean time it exists outside of the physical body on some other level of reality, and possibly in another universe.

Nikola Tesla’s amazing predictions for the 21st Century,

In the 1930s journalists from publications like the New York Times and Time magazine would regularly visit Nikola Tesla at his home on the 20th floor of the Hotel Governor Clinton in Manhattan. There the elderly Tesla would regale them with stories of his early days as an inventor and often opined about what was in store for the future.

Last year we looked at Tesla’s prediction that eugenics and the forced sterilization of criminals and other supposed undesirables would somehow purify the human race by the year 2100. Today we have more from that particular article which appeared in the February 9, 1935, issue of Liberty magazine. The article is unique because it wasn’t conducted as a simple interview like so many of Tesla’s other media appearances from this time, but rather is credited as “by Nikola Tesla, as told to George Sylvester Viereck.”

 It’s not clear where this particular article was written, but Tesla’s friendly relationship with Viereck leads me to believe it may not have been at his Manhattan hotel home. Interviews with Tesla at this time would usually occur at the Hotel, but Tesla would sometimes dine with Viereck and his family at Viereck’s home on Riverside Drive, meaning that it’s possible they could have written it there.

Viereck attached himself to many important people of his time, conducting interviews with such notable figures as Albert Einstein, Teddy Roosevelt and even Adolf Hitler. As a German-American living in New York, Viereck was a rather notorious propagandist for the Nazi regime and was tried and imprisoned in 1942 for failing to register with the U.S. government as such. He was released from prison in 1947, a few years after Tesla’s death in 1943. It’s not clear if they had remained friends after the government started to become concerned about Viereck’s activities in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Tesla had interesting theories on religion, science and the nature of humanity which we’ll look at in a future post, but for the time being I’ve pulled some of the more interesting (and often accurate) predictions Tesla had for the future of the world.

Creation of the EPA

The creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was still 35 years away, but Tesla predicted a similar agency’s creation within a hundred years.

Hygiene, physical culture will be recognized branches of education and government. The Secretary of Hygiene or Physical Culture will be far more important in the cabinet of the President of the United States who holds office in the year 2035 than the Secretary of War. The pollution of our beaches such as exists today around New York City will seem as unthinkable to our children and grandchildren as life without plumbing seems to us. Our water supply will be far more carefully supervised, and only a lunatic will drink unsterilized water.

Education, War and the Newspapers of Tomorrow

Tesla imagined a world where new scientific discoveries, rather than war, would become a priority for humanity.

Today the most civilized countries of the world spend a maximum of their income on war and a minimum on education. The twenty-first century will reverse this order. It will be more glorious to fight against ignorance than to die on the field of battle. The discovery of a new scientific truth will be more important than the squabbles of diplomats. Even the newspapers of our own day are beginning to treat scientific discoveries and the creation of fresh philosophical concepts as news. The newspapers of the twenty-first century will give a mere ” stick ” in the back pages to accounts of crime or political controversies, but will headline on the front pages the proclamation of a new scientific hypothesis.

Health and Diet

Toward the end of Tesla’s life he had developed strange theories about the optimal human diet. He dined on little more than milk and honey in his final days, believing that this was the purest form of food. Tesla lost an enormous amount of weight and was looking quite ghastly by the early 1940s. This meager diet and his gaunt appearance contributed to the common misconception that he was penniless at the end of his life.

More people die or grow sick from polluted water than from coffee, tea, tobacco, and other stimulants. I myself eschew all stimulants. I also practically abstain from meat. Fordham University Mumps Outbreak Has Only Affected Vaccinated Students; School Bans Unvaccinated Students Anyway |Natural Cures Not Medicine


One of New York’s lesser-known institutions of higher learning is making headlines after 13 confirmed cases, and counting, of mumps emerged on two of its campuses, prompting school officials to impetuously ban all unvaccinated students from attending classes. But these same reports clearly indicate that all affected students had already been vaccinated for mumps, proving once again the utter uselessness of vaccines and the imbecilic tendencies of organizations chained to the vaccine status quo.

Investigation Reveals Widespread Drug Use In Australian Sport

According to reports, concerns first arose after several Fordham University students suddenly came down with flu-like symptoms in recent weeks, which later turned out to be adult mumps in every case. The infection numbers continued to swell, prompting an inquiry into the vaccination records of the affected students. But this inquiry revealed that not a single unvaccinated student had contracted the mumps — only those who had previously been vaccinated for mumps developed the disease.

Nevertheless, Fordham officials have decided to prohibit all unvaccinated students, none of whom have contracted the disease thus far, from attending classes unless or until they agree to provide proof of vaccination. At the same time, all the vaccinated students who contracted mumps are being allowed to continue attending classes after exceeding the supposed contagious stage, a completely irrational policy move that only unfettered adherence to mainstream vaccine dogma.

“All of the students who were tentatively diagnosed with mumps had been vaccinated,” ABC News reported. “Vaccinations do not offer 100 percent protection.”

While both school and public health officials admit that the vaccine does not work for everyone, Fordham is still insistent that everyone receive it regardless. In a show of tyrannical ignorance, Fordham officials recently issued a public demand that all students be vaccinated for mumps, and those who have already been vaccinated receive booster shots.

So to recap, a university in New York reports 13 cases of an illness that should not have emerged because every single person who caught it had previously been vaccinated, and the school decides to punish the unvaccinated by denying them an education, all the while welcoming back with open arms those who caught the disease, and who might still spread it to other students.

Nothing about this type of scenario is at all reasonable from a logical perspective, as any rational-thinking person who has not been brainwashed into the vaccine religion will clearly see that vaccines do not work and actually reduce immunity. And yet in our demented society this type of decision-making is considered par for the course and a reasonable response to handling infectious disease outbreaks among the vaccinated.

“Natural immunity lasts a lifetime,” states one ABC News commenter about the benefits of not getting vaccinated. Deconstructing yet another plank in the pro-vaccine house of cards, he added that vaccination lasts “2-10 years initially and then 2-3 years on boosters. This means that the adult population has not been immune to MMR, Whooping Cough, Flu, etc… for the last 50 years, and yet there have been no epidemics.”

How to Use Self Doubt as Rocket Fuel.

Have you ever had a goal or a dream that you felt frozen in because you were riddled with self doubt?

Has self doubt ever stopped you from living the life you want?

Is self doubt the chain around your ankles that holds you back from your dreams?

Usually doubt is seen as the heavy weight that slows us down in life.  The evil curse of the mind that we are told to get rid of at all costs.

It says to us, “You can’t do it.  You’re not going to make it.  That’s impossible. You’re not good enough to do this.  You don’t have what it takes to do that.  Blah blah blah and on goes the words of doubt in your head!”

We are told to fight it, karate chop it, wrestle it, swear at it and tape it’s mouth shut!

But that doesn’t work and just seems to only fuel it even more!

ALAS!

There is another way to approach self doubt where we use it as rocket fuel to propel us in the direction of our dreams.

I know self doubt very well.  I’ve had many intuitive ideas and inspirations over the years that have been shot down in flames by the opposition of self doubt.

I used to think that if the self doubting voice was yelling “NOOOOOOO!”  it was an indicator that I wasn’t going to be able to do something, or at least it was going to be a long hard road ahead with heavy doubt present.

BUT BUT BUT!

After years of meditating and watching the doubting voice, I have come to notice the times when it usually arises and when it shouts the loudest.

The moments that my body and mind is filled with inspiration, intuition, drive, positivity and a clear vision to walk in a particular direction in life… this is usually followed by a big wave of self doubt.

The size of the wave of doubt is usually in direct proportion to the size of the task I am about to undertake.

The more bold and courageous the move ahead… the greater the wave of self doubt that follows.

I have tried to fight that voice of resistance (oh boy have I tried!) but it only made the move even more exhausting and the voice just got louder and louder!

So after years of noticing this pattern and feeling the frustration of letting it hold me back time and time again, it was time to look it directly in the face.

Hello self doubt… who are you?

Well I’ll be damned the answer blew me away!

Self doubt said, “Stop trying to fight me, I’m not your enemy, I’m your ally.”

Say what?!?

“You tell me I can’t do this and that!  How is that helpful?” I ask

Self Doubt said… “The world is full of contrast and it is an essential part of the wisdom of life.  Night and day, ebb and flow, life and death… you can’t have one without the other.

“I am here to show you that you are on the right path.  All of the big, bold, courageous moves that you make, I will be there too, creating the contrast needed to propel you in the direction of your dreams.”

“I am the night to your day, the thorn in your rose, the death required for you to be reborn.”

“If I am not present then you have been keeping yourself way too safe and living within your comfort zone!  I am the proof that you are heading in the right direction.  I am the rocket fuel you require to burst out of your old ways and into new territory.  I am the yardstick of courage.  I am the trumpet sounding the emergence of change and growth ahead.  I am present to fuel your inspiration NOT to hold it back.”

“Next time you hear my words of heavy contrast know that you have just made a step in the direction of truth and your dreams. Use my darkness to help you navigate your way to the light.”

Well sweet baby Jesus these words were like the devil taking off his cape and an angel emerging from within!

The words reflect the essence and truth that meditation points us to… that all of life, good and so called bad, light and dark, annoying and inspiring… all arise from the same source!

Soooooo the invitation to us all is to STOP wrestling self doubt, stop believing in it’s limiting words and simply use it as a sign that you are on the right track and a reminder to keep listening to your instincts and moving in the direction of your dreams! Yay!

Be bold, be courageous, be authentic and allow your life to reflect your deepest self! Hold self doubt’s hand as you skip down life’s path. I believe in you!
